Job Summary

This role is to assist the marketing department's social media and email communications efforts, helping amplify the reach of our station (Indiana Public Media) content, campaigns, and brand.

Department-Specific Responsibilities

  • Supports the creation of social media content across platforms (Instagram, Twitter/X, Facebook, and perhaps BlueSky); both repurposing content and creating original short form.
  • Assists in the build-out of email campaigns: segment lists, draft copy, upload assets, schedule sends, monitor metrics (open rates, clicks).
  • Monitors social media engagement, respond to comments/followers where appropriate and track analytics; produce weekly summaries for the Social Media Manager (Sam Schemenauer).
  • Participates in weekly brainstorm meeting with Sam to plan upcoming social content and email calendar; propose new ideas (story-takeovers, AMAs, behind-scenes).

EDUCATION

Required

  • Currently enrolled as a student at Indiana University (Preferably majoring in  journalism, communications, marketing, or related field )

SKILLS

Preferred

  • Proven experience or strong interest in social media platforms (especially Instagram, YouTube Shorts/Reels) and email marketing tools 
  • Familiarity with basic analytics (social metrics, email analytics) and comfortable interpreting data to make suggestions 
  • Strong writing/editing skills; attention to grammar, brand voice, concise social copy
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Premiere)  
  • Ability to work flexible hours around events (some evenings/weekends) 

Additional Information

Expected start in January at the beginning of the IU Spring semester, with exact start date determined based on applicant availability.

Most students work around their class schedules, but year-round availability (including summer) is welcome.

Advertised Salary

$14.00 per hour

Work Hours

8-12 hours per week with flexible scheduling.

Part-time employees at Indiana University may not work over 29 hours per week across all University-held positions.
